Been using this thermostat and 1 radiator valve. Worked straight out of the box, synced instantly with the iPhone app and homekit. The first month I used almost 50% less gas than before. 2 more radiator valves bought this month.

Not as fancy as Nest or Hive, but a stylish and practical alternative. Being able to override the the heating programme from afar is actually far more useful than you might imagine!

Amazon don't like to mention it, but it actually works just as well with Google Home as it does with Alexa. So voice control of your heating is as simple as saying "make it warner", or "set the heating to 19".

Netatmo have tried to make this as easy to DIY install as possible, with the hardware for a number of installation options in the box (and a decor plate to disguise any places where people have previously painted around old thermostats and programmers). For the most part this is successful (if a little wasteful).

The downside of this is that, by trying to be all things to all men, it makes installation over an existing recessed wall box difficult. Whether they never considered this possibility, or just thought "sod it", I don't know. But it meant that I had to mount it to a switch blanking plate, as this was the only way I could cover the hole, so my relay unit sticks out at least 50mm from the wall, and looks like a sore thumb. As you can see in my pictures, I have since made up a plastic cover to disguise the unsightly gap, but frankly it still looks a bit manky, and I would like to see an adaptor for a standard switch plate included with the thermostat, or at least made available as a UK accessory.

That niggle aside it does what I want perfectly, without fuss, and provides interesting advanced features as the thermostat learns the idiosyncracies of your installation.

Has it saved me any money? Although the app tries tries very hard to convince me it has, I can't see that it has made much difference in the real world. I had already fine tuned my heating programme over the last 10 years, and I keep a close eye on my energy usage from week to week. It stands to reason that my heating is on just as much (or as little) as it has always been at this time of year. I must say though, I get a lovely smug feeling every time I manually turn off the heating, and I must be saving a few pennies. Not many penies, but a few nonetheless! How long it would take to for those few pennies cover the purchase cost (mine was £90) is anyone's guess. So, unless you have a system without so much as a basic thermostat, I would ignore the claims of money saving as hyperbole, and base your purchase on the practical aspects of a smart thermostat at a sensible price.

All in all, then, I have no hesitation in recommending this device as the next stage in home heating control for those who want smart control without all the complications.

Perfect for HomeKit!

By customer "Iain Collins" on February 9, 2018
Great product, solid app and HomeKit compatibility. Faultless.

Installation took a while, but that was down to my lack of knowledge regarding boilers. The support documentation in the box and online really helped. Ultimately, I successfully installed the product and it works a treat.

Amazing Smart Thermostat

By customer "Amazon Customer" on February 4, 2018
I bought it because it was the Which Magazine’s “best on test”. It was simple to set up and works well with Apple HomeKit with no set up problems at all. After a week if had worked out a suitable heating schedule for our house and making alterations is so simple. Much better than the old thermostat.
